چکیده

Interpolation with translates of a basis function is a common process in approximation theory. One starts with a single function (the basis function) and a set of interpolation points. The most elementary form of the interpolant then consists of a linear combination of all translates by interpolation points of the basis function. Frequently , low degree polynomials are added to the interpolant. One of the signiicant features of this type of interpolant is that it is often the solution of a variational problem. To make this work, one needs an appropriate space in which to carry out the variational arguments. In this paper we concentrate on developing such spaces for a wide class of basis functions. We also show how the theory leads to eecient ways of calculating the interpolant and to error estimates.

A scheme for interpolation by Hankel translates of a basis function

Golomb and Weinberger [1] described a variational approach to interpolation which reduced the problem to minimizing a norm in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space generated by means of a small number of data points. Later, Duchon [2] defined radial basis function interpolants as functions which minimize a suitable seminorm given by a weight in spaces of distributions closely related to Sobolev sp...

Approximation by Radial Basis Functions with Finitely Many Centers

Interpolation by translates of \radial" basis functions is optimal in the sense that it minimizes the pointwise error functional among all comparable quasi{interpolants on a certain \native" space of functions F . Since these spaces are rather small for cases where is smooth, we study the behavior of interpolants on larger spaces of the form F 0 for less smooth functions 0. It turns out that in...

Multivariate Interpolation and Approximation by Translates of a Basis Function

This contribution will touch the following topics: Short introduction into the theory of multivariate interpolation and approximation by nitely many (irregular) translates of a (not necessarily radial) basis function, motivated by optimal recovery of functions from discrete samples. Approximation of a Fuzzy Function by Using Radial Basis Functions Interpolation

In the present paper, Radial Basis Function interpolations are applied to approximate a fuzzy function $tilde{f}:Rrightarrow mathcal{F}(R)$, on a discrete point set $X={x_1,x_2,ldots,x_n}$, by a fuzzy-valued function $tilde{S}$. RBFs are based on linear combinations of terms which include a single univariate function. Applying RBF to approximate a fuzzy function, a linear system wil...

Radial Basis Functions: L -approximation orders with scattered centres

In this paper we generalize several results on uniform approximation orders with radial basis functions in (Buhmann, Dyn and Levin, 1993) and (Dyn and Ron, 1993) to L-approximation orders. These results apply, in particular, to approximants from spaces spanned by translates of radial basis functions by scattered centres. Examples to which our results apply include quasi-interpolation and least-...
